Got COVID-19? How to Kick the Virus Out of Your Business
Has COVID-19 infected your business? If you or any of your employees are experiencing flu-like symptoms, it is possible. It is important for anyone who has experienced these symptoms to get tested right away. Once the test results come back, then you will be able to determine what next steps need to be taken for your business.
So, what if the test results come back positive? Don’t panic. The good news is that COVID-19 is fairly easy to get rid of with the correct tools and here at Rapid Restoration, we are here to help. Learn more on what you can do if COVID-19 infects your business and ways you can prevent it from happening again.
Determine Who’s Infected
The first thing you need to do is determine who was infected and where they have been in your facility or building. Companies with infected employees do not necessarily need to permanently shut down, if the areas the employee were in can be closed off.
Remember to wait 24 hours before entering the area for cleaning. This is so you don’t become infected too. If you can’t wait 24 hours, then remember to wear protective gloves and face coverings.
Helpful tip: If possible open any windows or doors in the infected area to increase the air circulation.
Disinfect All Areas
After you have waited 24 hours, you are now able to disinfect the areas where the infected employee was. You’ll want to be as thorough as possible and disinfect places and things like:
- Offices
- Bathrooms
- Common Areas
- Telephones
- Vending Machines
- Elevators
- Shared Equipment
It is important to disinfect anything that the infected employee may have come in contact with. If you aren’t sure whether or not they have touched something or entered an area, disinfect it anyways. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Which Disinfectant and How To Use It
When disinfecting your business it’s important to be sure that you are using the right product that will properly disinfect. Anything on the EPA’s list N can be used to disinfect against COVID-19.
If you do not have access to anything on the list than you can make your own bleach solution by mixing:
-
-
- 1/3rd cup bleach per gallon of room temperature water
- 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of room temperature water
-
Important: It is important to note that you should use bleach that contains 5.25% – 8.25% sodium hypochlorite. It is not recommended to use bleach that is not in this range.
These bleach solutions are a great way to disinfect your business and will continue to do so for at least 24 hours. After 24 hours, you’ll want to create a new bleach solution. If you still aren’t able to make your own bleach solution, then you can use any alcohol solution that has at least 70% alcohol.
Not all of these solutions are going to be your everyday house cleaners. Because of that we want to ensure that you are using them correctly and safely. When using these products you should always read the label and follow the instructions given, as well as:
-
-
- Wear gloves, facemasks, and eye protection
- If possible, open windows, vents and doors for ventilation
- Do not mix chemicals
- Do not use more than recommended
- Store properly and out of reach from children and pets
-
It’s important to use these disinfectants safely and these same recommendations apply if you’re using your own bleach solution. Once you have properly disinfected all areas that were contaminated, you can then reopen them for use.
